Outside the School Riya and Arjun were walking to their classroom when Riya noticed something on the ground. [Riya] “Arjun, look! There is a wallet here.” Arjun picked it up carefully. [Arjun] “There is money inside. Maybe someone dropped it.” [Riya] “We should not keep it. Let’s give it to our teacher.” [Arjun]“Yes. The person who lost it might be worried.” They walked to their classroom with the wallet. *** In the Classroom Their teacher, Mrs. Mehta, was arranging some books when Riya and Arjun came to her. [Riya] “Ma’am, we found this wallet outside the school.” [Mrs. Mehta]“Thank you for bringing it to me. Did you open it?” [Arjun]“No, ma’am. We thought it would be better to give it to you.” Mrs. Mehta smiled. [Mrs. Mehta]“You both made a very responsible choice. Let us check the ID card and find the owner.” *** At the School Office Mrs. Mehta took the wallet to the school office. Soon, a man came rushing into the office. [Man]“Excuse me, I think I lost my wallet. It has my ID card and some money in it.” Mrs. Mehta showed him the wallet. [Man]“Oh! This is mine! Thank you so much!” He turned towards Riya and Arjun. [Man]“Thank you for being honest. You saved me from a lot of worry.” [Riya] “You’re welcome!” [Arjun]“We were just doing what was right.” The man smiled and thanked them again. *** At the Park After school, Riya and Arjun sat together on a bench in the park. [Riya] “I was a little worried when we found the wallet.” [Arjun]“Me too. But I am happy we gave it to our teacher.” [Riya] “Imagine if we had kept the money!” [Arjun]“We might have bought something, but we would not have felt good inside.” They smiled at each other. [Riya] “Doing the right thing feels better than getting something for ourselves.” *** At Home That evening, Riya told her mother what had happened. [Mother]“I am very proud of you, Riya. You were honest and responsible.” Arjun also told his father about the wallet. [Father]“Remember, Arjun, being honest is important even when nobody is watching.” Arjun nodded. [Arjun]“I understand, Papa. We should always do the right thing.” And that night, both children went to bed feeling happy because they had helped someone. Moral of the Story Honesty and kindness always make a difference. Doing the right thing is more valuable than getting something for yourself. ***
